MA Monika Novaković

BIOGRAPHY

 

MA Monika Novaković (1995, Sremska Mitrovica, Republic of Serbia) is a musicologist and a Research Assistant at the Institute of Musicology of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts as well as PhD candidate at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts, Belgrade, Serbia. She completed her BA and MA studies of Musicology at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. She is the member of Serbian Musicological Society (since 2019), Royal Musical Association’s Shakespeare & Music Study Group (UK) (since 2020), as well as the member of Musicology and Ethnomusicology Section of Composers’ Association of Serbia (since 2021). She participates in both national and international conferences. From the June of 2018 until the end of 2019, she participated in the project 177004 – Identities of Serbian music: between local and global frameworks: traditions, changes, challenges, financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. She also participated in the Beyond Quantum Music project, financed by Creative Europe, with the help of Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia, Desk Creative Europe Serbia and SOKOJ (Beyond Quantum Music (October 2019-December 2022), Grant No. 607659-CREA-1-2019-1-RS-CULT-COOP1, Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (Brussels, BE) – program Creative Europe).

Although she deals with various subjects regarding the work of Serbian (Petar Krančević, Zoran Erić, Svetislav Božić, Zoran Simjanović) and foreign (Karlheinz Stockhausen, Edgard Varèse) composers, her professional interest is focused on the research of field of applied music – particularly film and theatre/incidental music.

She is currently working on her doctoral thesis titled Incidental music in Belgrade theatres at the end of 20th and the beggining of 21st century (under the mentorship of dr Biljana Leković and co-mentorship of dr Sanela Nikolić).
